and Hardy Perennials
Yorkshire Irises and Hardy Perennials is a family run, specialist plant nursery based just outside Whixley in Yorkshire. We grow over 250 varieties of irises on site including both heritage and modern varieties, tried and tested in the Yorkshire climate! We also stock a range of hardy perennials that are not only fabulous in their own right but that we think go particularly well with irises either in a border or a large pot.
Being obsessive about irises, we are also breeding new varieties and Claire, Yorkshire Irises' owner, is a member of the board of the British Iris Society. We are always happy to talk about the history of irises and the practicalities of growing and breeding them.
We sell through our website and at selected shows, including the Harrogate Spring and Autumn flower shows and Plant Heritage fairs, and hold a number of open days during iris flowering season.
Please see our events page to find out where we'll be next.

Please note we do not dispatch iris plants when in flower as it can be very damaging for the plants. Therefore, weather dependent, any plants ordered between April and July will be dispatched at the earliest 6 weeks after the latest flowering iris in your order has flowered. Allowing plants to continue growing on for at least 6 weeks after flowering ensures the plants we provide are of the best possible quality. Please note different irises may flower earlier or later depending on weather conditions in and given year and so dispatch times may vary. However, we always aim to dispatch orders as soon as we can while ensuring customers receive high quality plant material.
Our online iris orders are dispatched as individual bare root rhizomes. However, if we have suitable potted plants available, we may be able to take orders for these but please contact us to discuss your requirements.
